What are signs of depression?

  • Trouble concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
  • Fatigue or low energy
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and helplessness
  • Pessimism and hopelessness
  • Sleeping too much or too little
  • Irritability
  • Restlessness
  • Loss of interest in things once pleasurable
  • Overeating or appetite loss
  • Aches, pains, headaches that won’t go away
  • Digestive problems that don’t get better, even with treatment
  • Persistent sad, anxious, or empty feelings

What are signs of anxiety?

  • Excessive, ongoing worry and tension
  • An unrealistic view of problems
  • Restlessness or a feeling of being “edgy”
  • Irritability
  • Muscle tension, sweating, nausea
  • Headaches
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Tiredness
  • Trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Trembling
  • Being easily startled

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

  • Invalidating childhood environment
  • Experiencing emotional, physical, or sexual abuse
  • Experiencing emotional or physical neglect
  • Living in a home where domestic violence occurs
  • Living in a home where a family member abuses substances
  • Living in a home where a family member has a mental disorder
  • Parental separation or divorce
  • Having an incarcerated family member

PTSD and Complex PTSD

  • Hypervigilance – feeling on “high alert”
  • Intrusive memories or flashbacks
  • Avoidance of reminders of the trauma
  • Memory issues
  • Irritability
  • Feeling out-of-control emotions
  • Negative view of yourself, others, or the world in general
  • Blaming self or overwhelming guilt
